Pho Hoa is the largest Vietnamese restaurant chain in North America with locations in almost every city where Asians densely populate. It's also a franchise restaurant. You can find the outlets in Asian countries like Malaysia, Korea, Singapore and the Philippines.

Pho Tai

Mr H is a very serious meat eater. We would eat meat everyday if given a chance. The fact that he knows that protein do come from other type food, he still thinks meat is the best. Yeah sure, some of you might concern about the cholesterol but if you know how to manage it (will tell about it on my next write up) you'll be fine. As for me, I just love soup. So it was a perfect choice for us.

Mmmmm... Beefy!

We were in a hurry that day as both of us need to run errands. So we settled for their Fried Spring Roll filled with mince chicken and vegetables for appetiser. I could see Mr H's nostrils starts to swell when he begin to chew it. That indicate one thing, the food is good (or in any other occasion, when he's feeling vain).

Oodles Noodles

Both of us had Pho Tai ( Noodle Soup with Round Eye Steak). Mr H didn't say a word. Yep.. he's enjoying it allright. The portion was quite generous. The soup was tasty. Very beefy said Mr H. Each bowl of soup is accompanied with fresh coriander leaves, mint leaves, basil, bean sprouts, cili padi, lime wedges... to give the customers a complete, nutritious and well-balanced meal. They also served it with a special sambal made from Chillies, lemon grass and ginger.

The Condiments

There's a lot of choices of noodles for you to choose from. We will definitely will try others on our next visit. For those who would like to have something healthy. So go on down to The Curve and get your self a bowl of Beef Noodles that won't burn your pocket.

Huong thu thuc an cac ban! So... as usual, we feast. Today got the good old Domino's (mmmm PIZZA...)

We ordered the Board Room Deal 3, costs us about RM 125 but we have to add RM5 more for the Double Decker Crust (mmmmm... my favourite). Supposed to be fasting but I was feeling kinda low. So I tell myself; puasa esok ajer la.

So, on my way to work, I stopped at the stall by the train station, got myself nasi lemak with sambal sotong and two bergedil. I felt soooooooooooo good right after I gobble up everything down my throat. Sorry I didn't took the photo as I was so sad so I have to stuffed it all to face immediately.

With roots in Malay culture, its name is a Malay word that literally means 'rice in cream'. The name is derived from the cooking process whereby rice is soaked in rich coconut cream and then the mixture steamed. Sometimes knotted screwpine (pandan) leaves are thrown into the rice while steaming to give it more fragrance. Spices such as ginger (common in Malay cuisine) and occasionally herbs like lemon grass may be added for additional fragrance.

Traditionally, this comes as a platter with cucumber slices, small dried anchovies (ikan bilis), roasted peanuts, stir fried water convolvulus (kangkong), hard boiled egg, pickled vegetables (achar) and hot spicy sauce (sambal). Nasi lemak can also come with any other accompaniments such as chicken, cuttlefish, cockle, beef curry (beef stewed in coconut milk and spices) or paru (beef lungs). Traditionally most of these accompaniments are spicy in nature.

Nasi lemak is traditionally a breakfast dish, and it is sold early in the morning at roadside stalls in Malaysia, where it is often sold packed in newspaper, brown paper or banana leaf. However, there are restaurants which serve it on a plate as noon or evening meals, making it possible for the dish to be treated as a delicacy. 'Nasi lemak panas' meaning hot nasi lemak is another name given to nasi lemak served with hot cooked rice.

So tonight, if the 'low' feeling is still kinda hanging around, I might get another serving of Nasi Lemak with Ayam Goreng Berempah.

Hungry? I do not have more than 3 photos for this entry. Why? Mr H and my fingers are kinda grubby from the food that we ordered. What can I say, he's a crab lover and I am the Lala concubine.

Despite being tucked away in a nice corner of suburban Kuala Lumpur, Nong & Jimmy's in Taman Cahaya, Ampang, is never short of patrons. So what's the catch here? Thai Seafood BBQ, that's what!

Nong & Jimmy's are known for their delicious Fried Rice with copious serving of prawns in them. The house speciality is their barbecued crab. Mr H was totally enjoying it. I think he even forgot that I was sitting beside him. The shell is surprisingly easy to break, unleashing the succulent and sweet meat which was pressure cooked inside its shell. Mr H just savour it by its own.

We also ordered Lala, fried kailan and grilled prawns. As usual when the Lala is served, I started to stuffed my face as if I haven't eaten for 5 months! The Lala cooked with secret sauce along with basil and chillies which makes it a prefect combination. If you like smoky and nicely seasoned taste I suggest you order the Grilled Prawns. Both barbecued crab and prawns are served with two different sauces. Sweet chili sauce and chili sauce with crushed peanuts.

Lastly, we had Chakoi and Pandan Kaya. The Chakoi was simply magnifique. Crispy outside and soft inside. For RM3 we got quite a portion of it.

So head on to Nong & Jimmy's for a moderately inexpensive meals but for those who are on a tight budget, stay away from delicious barbecue crabs as they go for RM40 per kg.

NONG & JIMMY THAI SEAFOOD BBQ
Lot 27363, Jalan Cahaya 1,
Taman Cahaya, Ampang, Selangor
Tel : 03 4251 1807
(From KL and along Jalan Ampang, turn right at the traffic light after Ampang Point towards Kg Pandan. It cost us RM15.80 inclusive of Teh Tarik and Teh Halia.

Here's the map to the stall. Hope it will help if anyone of you decided to go and try the Mutton Curry.

Something That Mr H Could Not Resist : Pasta Zanmai

Mr H and I love going to One Utama mainly to buy groceries and watching movies. I remember walking by this restaurant when they are still renovating. 'Japanese Pasta Restaurant' says the writing on the wall. I was so looking forward for the opening. Mr H wasn't so sure. A bit hesitant. Japanese pasta? Doesn't sound authentic he said. I said let give it a try. Lets explore our taste bud.

Mr H Favourite, Unagi and Pasta

A meal later, it has became something that he could not resist. Now, almost every time when we're at One Utama. He'll says, 'Let's go for Zanmai'. Reason why, he says that the authenticity of the pasta is unchallenged. I have to agree on that. The bone-free Unagi Kabayaki To Onsen Tamago pasta is uncontested. It is exceptional! Tamago Onsen (egg) used to be cooked in the Japanese onsen, or hot spring, to keep the yolk as runny as the white and the noodle is really al dente here.

Kinoko Something Something

And as for my favorite (see above & below). I can't remember what it is call. Kinoko something something. It's pasta with mushroom cream sauce served with Tamago Onsen (just the way I like it).

The thing is with Zanmai, which mean choices in Japanese (trust me, there's a lot of choices here) have unquestionable authenticity as they only only use Japanese pasta, which they import from Japan and all other ingredients as well. The only local ingredients they use are the beef and chicken.

With a Whollata Cheese

So if you in One Utama do drop by at the restaurant. Take my word. You are not going to be sorry. The cosy interior invites relaxation. You will love it there.

PASTA ZANMAI
G210B Ground Floor Promenade, 1 Utama Shopping Centre, Petaling Jaya
Tel: 03-7728-1210
Opens: 10am - 10pm (Sundays to Thursdays); 10am - 10.30pm (Fridays and Saturdays)

Ooohhh That Yummy Mee Bandung Muar!

It was last Saturday and I'm feeling kinda hungry. Mr H make me choose between Rojak Kader or Mee Bandung Muar. I gotta tell it was a tough one! Since we are at the IT Mall, I decided that we go for Mee Bandung.

I've been to a lot of different restaurant and stalls that claims they serve the best Mee Bandung in town but none prevail. Mr H took to me to this stall last year after reading a review about it in a local paper. It has been our favourite Mee Bandung place since. They serve more than just noodles. They even serve Asam Pedas Johor which available only in the afternoon and Goreng Pisang that served with Sambal Kicap. You have got to try this! I suggest you order the Pisang Abu. It's superlicious! Yummy!

The Mee Bandung's gravy is a thrilling mixture of tastes - sweet, sour, tangy and spicy and the noodles are served with sawi and beef strips. You can taste the Udang Kering immediately and it's not overpowering. What I love most about the Mee Bandung here is how the egg are perfectly poached. Just the way I like it!

So go on and get your Mee Bandung Muar. The stall is at PJ Section 8 (food court), Stall No 4. Open from 8.00am to 10.00pm (except Sundays). The Mee Bandung Muar is RM3.50 while the Mee Bandung Muar Udang Galah with sizeable prawns is RM5.50.

First Date Thing

Mr H broke his glasses.
